FAQ about Writing a Will

The most important person at Will Provider is you.

Many people are already familiar with the basics of what a Will is, what a Will can do, and why we need one, but for many it's something that is left on the to-do list,

We find it is best to simply just get it out of the way by writing your will; once it’s done it’s done, all that’s left then is just to review it regularly to make it still meets your wishes.

  • What is a will?

  • A will is also known as a “Last Will and testament”. It is a legal document that has created instructions on how you would like your assets distributed after your death.
In some cases, it will also appoint a guardian for a child, ensure pets are properly taken care of by somebody you’ve chosen and also state who will manage the estate as an executor and ensure your wishes are met.

  • What do I need to make a Will?

  • Mental Capacity.

This is one of the most compelling reasons why not to leave writing a will on your to-do list.
Not Writing a Will until you’re affected by something like dementia does make writing a will a more stressful and worrying experience. Unfortunately, it becomes a costlier exercise as a third-party mental assessment might be required.

    Identification

This can be in the form of your driving license, passport, current State Pension notification letter.

    Names and addresses

The full names and addresses of people you wish to place in your Will, this often gets overlooked but we do need to know the correct names and addresses. We may require you to double-check this information.

  • How long does it take to write a will?

  • We disagree with the suggestion that a Will is a 15-minute process and believe that writing a Will requires more thought than this.

Writing a Will involves careful consideration of all the assets you have accumulated throughout your life, while also taking into account your personal choices and circumstances, both present and future.

It is important to take the time to create an effective Will that will give you peace of mind, and this requires more than just 15 minutes.

Using our Derby Wills we aim to produce a draft copy of your Will for your review within 14 days.
This period also includes a cancellation window in case you change your mind.

Once you confirm that the draft copy is accurate, we will produce the final documents within 7 working days.
The signing and witnessing of the documents will take place in our presence.

To ensure that we can meet this timeline, it is important that you provide us with the correct spelling of names and addresses and any information requested promptly.
